Alamo New Zealand Rental Terms for travel between 01-May-2013 and 31-Dec-2019
PaymentAn initial, non-refundable deposit will be secured at the time of booking confirmation. Accepted credit cards are Visa and MasterCard.
The balance, along with any applicable vehicle security bond, will be secured directly by the supplier on arrival.
Cancellation
In the event of cancellation, the initial deposit paid remains non-refundable.
Additional Driver Policy
Additional drivers are permitted at a cost of NZD 3.13 + tax per day, with a maximum charge of NZD 43.82 + tax per rental. Rental conditions apply to all additional drivers.
Age Requirements
Minimum rental age is 21 years for car groups ECMR, CDAR, IDAR, FDAR and IFAR. 25 years for all other car groups.
There is no maximum rental age.
There is a young drivers surcharge of NZD 25.00 + tax per day, with a maximum charge of NZD 350.00 + tax for driver's aged 21 - 24 years of age.
Condition of Vehicle
Vehicle must be returned, normal wear & tear expected, in the same condition as when rented. If special cleaning is required a separate charge will be made directly to the customer
Cross Border Policy
Two separate reservations must be made if the client is travelling from South to North Island or vice versa. The customer leaves the vehicle in each Island, e.g. a reservation from ‘Auckland to Christchurch’ hire is treated as a two leg booking. Please provide the cross over date at the time of booking. The customer is required to drop the first car at the end of one Island and collect a new car at the other Island. If the car is taken across on the Ferry all repositioning fees will be charged directly to the customer.
In New Zealand, the vehicle must never be taken on the following roads:
a) Ball Hutt (Mt Cook)
b) Skippers (Queenstown)
c) 90 mile beach (Northland)
d) All roads north of Colville on the Coromandel Penninsula, the Tapu to Coroglen road (all parts east of Rapaura Gardens), the 309 road from Coromandel to Kairnarama and the Blackjack Road from Kuatuna and Opito.
e) On the following Highways on the South Island between the hours of 2200 and 0600 (local time) from the 1st June until 30th October:-
i) State Highway 6 between Twizel and Queenstown;
ii) The Milford Road between Te Anau and Milford Sound;
iii) The west coast road between Franz Joseph and Wanaka; and
iv) Arthur’s Pass
v) On beaches or through streams, dams, rivers, or flood waters;
The vehicle is not covered on flood prone roads or any roadway where the Police or any other Government authority has issued a warning or caution.
Vehicles can be driven on an unsealed road, providing it is a 4WD and not in an area/road as listed above.
Licence Requirements
Customers must present a full and valid driving licence. Probationary or restricted licences are not acceptable nor are photocopies. International arrivals into New Zealand are recommended to have arranged an International driver’s licence before travel and provide this with their current country licence. A licence from the originating country will be accepted, providing it is in English and clearly demonstrates the expiry date, drivers address and permit conditions. Licences that are not in English will not be accepted without an international drivers licence or a notarized translation acceptance letter. For identification purposes, we also require drivers to provide their credit card details. Photocopies of credit cards are not acceptable as ID.
One Way Rentals
One way rentals are permitted for all cars in New Zealand and drop charges may apply. Please refer to the one way matrix for details. For one way rentals between islands please see the cross border policy information.
Out of Hours Policy
Out of hours pickups and returns are permitted at a cost of NZD 35.00 + tax, on request only.
Payment Policy
All major credit cards are accepted (American Express/Diners Club/Mastercard/Visa). National vouchers, Travellers cheques in AUD and Debit Cards (Visa Debit and MasterCard Debit) are also accepted. Debit cards cannot be used to pay for PVAR (Premium Pax Van), FFAR (Fullsize SUV), SFMR (Standard SUV) and IVAR (Intermediate Pax Van). Credit cards and Debit Cards must be in the name of the renter. China Union Pay Cards (CUP), National charge cards and Eurocheques are not accepted. Cash rentals are not accepted, but additional charges may be paid with cash at the end of the rental if required. A security deposit (bond) of NZD 200.00 (including GST) is required which is held on the card until the vehicle is returned. A credit card is always required for deposits. There is a Credit Card/Debit Card Fee of 1.725% applicable for all reservations paid via any credit/debit card.
Refuelling Policy
Vehicles are supplied with a full tank of fuel and must be returned the same amount of fuel, or a refuelling fee will be charged to the driver upon return at the location. At some locations, the customer has the option to purchase a full tank at time of collection and can return the vehicle without having to refuel.
Roadside Assistance
A 24 hour emergency road side assistance service is included with every rental. Roadside assistance is free for all mechanical damage defects not resulting from Renter misuse of the vehicle. All non-mechanical defects such as lost keys, keys locked in the vehicle, flat battery due to lights being left on etc will be charged for. Further details on fees and charges can be obtained by contacting the toll free number: 0800 625 035. Full details on accidents and breakdowns will be provided to the customer at time of rental.
Special Equipment
Child infant seats - CSI (0 - 12 months) are available at a cost of NZD 41.74 + tax per rental. Replacement Amount is NZD 230.00 (inc tax).
Child toddler seats - CST (1 - 3 years) are available at a cost of NZD 41.74 + tax per rental. Replacement Amount is NZD 230.00 (inc tax).
Child booster seats - BST (4 - 7 years) are available at a cost of NZD 41.74 + tax per rental. Replacement Amount is NZD 230.00 (inc tax).
GPS Navigation (NVS) is available at a cost of NZD 9.95 + tax per day, with a maximum charge of NZD 99.50 + tax per rental (10 Days). Replacement Amount is NZD 287.50 (inc tax).
Snow chains are available at a cost of NZD 10.00 + tax per day, with a maximum charge of NZD 50.00 + tax per rental. Replacement Amount is NZD 575.00 (inc tax).
Ski Racks are available at a cost of NZD 10.00 + tax per day, with a maximum charge of NZD 50.00 + tax per rental. Replacement Amount is NZD 575.00 (inc tax).
Ski Racks and Snow Chains are only available at the following locations: Aukland City (AKLC01/71), Aukland Int Apt (AKLT01/71), Picton Ferry Port (PCNC01/P71), Blenheim Apt (BHEO01/71), Nelson Apt (NSNO01/71), Greymouth RRS (GMNC01/71), Christchurch Int Apt (CHCT01/71), Christchurch City (CHCC01/71), Queenstown Apt (ZQNT01/71) and Invercargill Apt (IVCO01/71).
Snow Chains and Ski Racks are available at participating stations during the Winter months (1st May – 31st October).
New Zealand will provide a ski equipped car for ski racks and chains. This is available for all cars except IVAR (Intermediate Pax Van) which cannot take ski racks. The roof rack and snow chains will be in the boot of the vehicle. Chains and roof racks can be supplied and fitted by the customer however any damage caused, is the responsibility of the renter and are not covered under the standard terms and conditions.
Luggage Trailer – LTR - available for IVAR (Intermediate Pax Van) bookings only – NZD 43.48 + tax per day, with a maximum charge of NZD 217.40 + tax.
Surcharges
Premium Location Fee (PLS) of NZD 40.00 + tax per rental will apply to any hire commencing at an Airport or Ferry Terminal.
Unlimited mileage for all vehicles excluding IVAR (Intermediate Paxvan). This vehicle only has 200 kilometres per day. Additional kilometres are charged 0.275 NZD per km (including GST) unless contracted product includes unlimited mileage - refer to contracted rate sheet.

Damage Liability Fee
Damage Liability Fee is included in the rates and reduces the customers damage responsibility to the excess/deductible amount in the event of damage or third party loss.

Third Party Liability
Third Party Liability is included in the rates and provides cover for any damage caused by a third party up to a maximum of NZD 5,000.000.
Collision Damage Waiver
Collision Damage Waiver reduces the deductible of the Damage Liability Fee. Collision Damage Waiver does not include Windscreen Headlight and Tyre Cover and is not available for drivers 21-22 years of age. All daily costs exclude VAT.

Snow Cover
Snow coverage is compulsory for vehicles travelling above the snow line. If a customer travels to the snow fields without purchasing the Snow Coverage, they will be liable for all costs associated with any accident or incident. All costs are excluding VAT.

Windscreen Headlights and Tyre Protection is cover for windscreen, headlight, wheel and tyre damage unless caused recklessly or by a deliberate, willful or criminal act or by driver abuse. There is no reduction to the Damage Liability Fee and no cover for damage to side and rear windows. All costs are excluding VAT.

We welcome feedback from our customers on their experience with our suppliers. We may, at our discretion, provide you with reasonable assistance in resolving any dispute you may have with a supplier.
Our total liability to you in relation to your use of this website and the information contained on this website will not exceed the dollar amount of the deposit we have received from you in relation to your booking/rental. Refunds will not be made for bookings cancelled due to inclement weather. Again, we strongly recommend that you take out travel insurance. Your use of this website is governed by the laws of New Zealand and the jurisdiction of the New Zealand courts.
Booking information
To make a booking you must complete our booking form which is easy to follow and secured with the latest encryption technology. Once we receive your form, we will, subject to availability, confirm your booking by emailing you a confirmation voucher and invoice.
If you are booking via phone, please make sure you have read the terms and conditions of the vehicle you wish to rent first. Our reservations consultant will ask you if you have read the terms and agree to them before proceeding. The onus is always on the renter to ensure they make themselves fully aware of the terms displayed on our website.

In booking on this website you acknowledge that we disclose your information to your selected Supplier in order to provide the requested rental services.
Vehicle capacity and fitness to drive
Under no circumstances are you permitted to carry more passengers than the vehicle you rent is legally registered to carry, and if you do your insurance may be invalidated. The number of seatbelts (and passengers) is indicated next to each vehicle on this website. Luggage capacity where shown is an indication only and we will not be responsible should you be unable to fit your entire luggage into a vehicle. It is your responsibility to choose a journey that is within your capabilities. A vehicle supplier can refuse to rent a vehicle to any person who is in their opinion unfit to drive or does not meet eligibility requirements. In such circumstances we will have no further liability to you.
Refund Policy
We are committed to providing a quality service and aim for complete customer satisfaction. In the event of cancellation, any refunds or penalties are detailed in the terms and conditions of your selected vehicle that you are asked to read and accept at time of booking. In the event you are unsatisfied with our service, please contact us within 48 hours of placing your booking or request and we will work to resolve any issues and determine if compensation is due. In the event you have completed your rental and are unhappy with your vehicle, we are happy to assist you in seeking compensation from the operator of the vehicle.
